The Lema Dolmen coffee table dates from 2022. It was designed by David Lopez Quincoces, a Madrid-born architect who studied at Complutense University and the Politecnico di Milano and now runs a studio in Madrid and Milan. Lema launched it at that year's Salone del Mobile. The name refers to dolmens, prehistoric monuments built from a heavy stone slab laid across upright stones. You can see the link. Thick tops sit on solid bases, with no legs at all. Dolmen is a family of tables meant to sit by the sofa in groups. Quincoces calls the silhouettes monolithic and treats them as architectural elements, with shapes and colors that change from one project to the next.
Shapes and materials of the Lema Dolmen coffee table
There are three shapes: rectangular, square and round. The rectangular and square tables have a 25 mm (1 in) MDF top and base. The top comes in matt lacquer or in walnut or heat-treated oak veneer. Heat treatment gives the oak a deeper, darker tone. The round table is a tall drum, with a laminated MDF top and a curved poplar plywood base, in matt lacquer only. Every base is painted in bronze, finish M420, and rests on felt pads. The polyurethane matt lacquer holds up well against scratches. Colors run from browns to blues to a deep red.
How to group Dolmen tables
Dolmen looks best with two pieces or more. Lema offers several sizes and two heights, so the tables can overlap: the low one slides halfway under the taller one. A round and a rectangular table in front of a long sofa always works. We would also mix materials. Put heat-treated oak next to a brick-red lacquer and the group stops looking like a matching set. If you like the same solid mass in a single, more sculptural piece, see the Lema Francis coffee table by Norm Architects, finished in clay and cement textures.
Our advice
Measure the space between sofa and armchairs before you pick colors, and decide how many pieces you want. With Dolmen, the grouping matters more than any single table. At our showroom in Messina, Italy, you can see Lema's lacquers and wood finishes and try combinations with us. Your tailored quote comes back quickly. We ship worldwide. If you already have an offer for the same Dolmen grouping, in the same finishes, from another authorized Lema dealer, we will match it or beat it.
