A bergère that has learned to speak softly. Doralice was drawn in 1980 by Antonio Citterio and Paolo Nava: arms and back pared back to the essentials, a soft slipcover that comes off like a garment, slender wooden feet. Graceful, understated and timeless, it is as much at home by the fireplace as in a bedroom. Choose your cover and we guarantee you the best price.
In 1980 Antonio Citterio and Paolo Nava designed an armchair for Flexform that took the bergère, the most classic of drawing-room seats, and stripped away everything it did not need. The result was Doralice: discreet proportions, a hint of retro in its lines and an elegance that never asks for attention. More than forty years later it is still in the collection, and the reason becomes clear the moment you sit down.
Underneath is a combined frame in solid wood and metal, padded with polyurethane foam. On top sits a soft, lightweight slipcover in fabric or leather that is easy to take off and put back on, so Doralice can be refreshed simply by changing its cover, the way you change clothes with the seasons. The slender feet are beech, natural or stained in a range of tones from canaletto walnut to ebony and wenge.
It is a compact armchair, ideal for a reading corner, beside a statement sofa or as a pair flanking a coffee table. On request you can add a back cushion in sterilised, Assopiuma-certified goose down for an even more enveloping seat. In a modern home it adds a touch of memory; in a period house it looks as if it has always been there.
Doralice is all about details: the colour of the cover and the stain of the feet change its character completely. Come and try it in our showroom and browse the Flexform fabric and leather swatches with us. Two armchairs in pale linen with walnut feet can carry a whole living room.
