At night you lean back and the headboard is already tilted, ready for a book. Theo is a lean wooden bed: ash with the grain left visible, legs that flare slightly toward the floor. Keep the headboard in wood, or dress it in fabric or leather and the whole room softens. Got a quote elsewhere? Send it over and we'll match it or beat it.
The Lema Theo bed dates from 2013. It was designed by Studio Kairos, the practice architects Giuseppe Manente and Abramo Mion founded in 1980. For Lema they drew a double bed built around wood: a plain ash frame and a slanted headboard held up by supports thinner than the frame itself. Lema talks about the richness and warmth of wood set against one slender detail. In a bedroom, that change in thickness is what you notice first.
The frame is solid ash. Every finish keeps the grain visible: oak-stained heat-treated ash, coal-stained ash, open-pore lacquer in Carta 750, or open-pore black. The legs flare slightly and change section as they reach the floor. You see it best from the side. The headboard has more options. Keep it in ash, lacquer it in a color from Lema's Lemacolortrend range, or have it lightly padded and covered in fabric or leather. In leather, a light quilting gives the surface rhythm.
Lema makes Theo in two sizes, with an overall footprint of 217 x 175 cm (85.4 x 68.9 in) or 217 x 185 cm (85.4 x 72.8 in), and a height of 89 cm (35 in). Slats and mattress are chosen separately. With a wood headboard the room stays crisp and quiet. With quilted leather it feels warmer, and we like that version best against coal-stained ash. If you'd rather have an all-fabric bed with a tall, wraparound headboard, take a look at the Lema Lullaby bed.
Pick the headboard first, then the ash finish, since the two together set the tone of the bed. At our showroom in Messina, Italy, you can see the wood samples, Lema's lacquers and the upholstery, and we'll help you settle on size and slats. Your tailored quote comes back fast. We ship worldwide, so you can order from wherever you live. If you already have an offer for the same Theo, in the same size and finishes, from another authorized Lema dealer, we will match it or beat it.
